Sure, layering were fun, but dressing practically doesn't always allow for much creativity and personal expression. After all, you may be wearing your nicest outfit of the year, but what's the point if it's hidden beneath the huge coat you've had to wrap yourself up in every day for the past few months? So, what are we all going to wear for the next few months now that we can finally shed our layers? Here are the key 2024 fashion trends.
1. DRESSING
While denim midis surely reigned supreme for AW23, it appears that the skirt is receiving a hyper-feminine revamp for SS24. Think incredibly small, super thin, or flowing and graceful; this skirt is an essential component of a larger aesthetic trend that will be popular this summer: Masc/Fem Dressing. Crucially, the skirts no longer look good with a nice cropped cardigan or a stunning vest. Instead, consider big shirts, menswear sweaters, bulky jackets, or perhaps all three.
If you're suffering with your officewear appearance right now, why not jump on one of summer's hottest trends early this year? SS24's workwear look is all about loose tailoring (à la H&M Rokh), and we don't simply mean a skirt that allows you to breathe. This business casual is going all out, with very large suits, jackets that fall to the top of your thigh, and perhaps even an elasticated waist on a Friday? To experiment with proportions, pair it with a slim-fitting blouse or a skinny knit.
Spotted at Miu Miu, Christian Dior, and 16Arlington, as well as Prada, Carven, and Burberry.

3. SHEERED WHITES
Sheer materials have been popular in evening wear for several seasons, and nowhere more so than on our favorite red carpet superstars, but there's a very specific way to wear the trend in 2024. Giving pure white a sensual twist, nothing is sexier in the summer than a sheer white dress, whether you're going out to dinner, the beach, or, of course, the red carpet. Perhaps avoid it as a wedding guest.
Coperni, Victoria Beckham, and Acne Studios have all been spotted, as have Valentino, Stella McCartney, Gabriel Hearst, Michael Kors, Prada, Dior, Christopher Esber, Ermanno Scervino, and Christian Siriano.

7. Minerals
Christmas, and with it, party season, may be over, but that doesn't mean it's time to put away the clothes. In fact, metallics will serve you and your clothes well for months to come, since golds and silvers are expected to be among the trendiest colour trends in 2024. Of course, this trend is most suited to evening wear, but with Miu Miu and Rabanne delivering ideal dressed-down interpretations with creative layering, there's no reason to skip it this summer.
Miu Miu, Prabal Gurung, and Rabanne have all been spotted, as have Roksanda, Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren, Courreges, Nina Ricci, and Chloé.

9. Short pants
If you've been paying attention to the celebrity fashion scene in recent weeks, this final trend will come as no surprise. Micro shorts, often known as knickers, have been having a moment since these designs hit the catwalk, with everyone from Kendall Jenner to Beyoncé joining the street style set in trying out the trend. Of course, they require a certain level of confidence - and warm weather - to pull off, as they expose nearly half of your body. To take a more tentative step into the trend, channel Alexander McQueen and combine yours with thigh-high boots for a little extra coverage.
Isabel Marant, Alexander McQueen, and Prada have all been spotted, as well as Gucci, Hermès, Mu Miu, and Nina Ricci.
